What is the difference between the free version and the upgraded version?
Answer:
Our free version only contains the keystroke monitoring software and can be used for a trial period. The upgraded version contains remote screenshots, remote logging, browser/file history, microphone recording, search engine recording (Currently IE/Mozilla/Chrome compatible), plugins and many more features with unlimited use.

Desktop Shark does not appear to be starting automatically. Why?
Answer:
Login to your account and download/run the Automatic Startup Fix. This will set Desktop Shark to run during Windows Startup.

I installed Desktop Shark but nothing opened after installation.
Answer:
Make sure you are using the correct installer for 64 and 32 bit Windows. This happens when a 32 bit installer is run on a 64 bit operating system or vice versa.

How do I unblock port 30572 so that Desktop Shark can be detected on this computer or another?
Answer:
Depending on your version of Windows the steps might vary. However, to do this, go to Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Firewall, Turn OFF Firewall (not recommended). Or to add a rule click Advanced Settings and in the left Pane click Inbound Rules and Oubound Rules, New Rule (right pane), click port, TCP and add 30572. This should be done for both Inbound and Outbound. (recommended).

Why do I not see the log files after I choose a file path?
Answer:
By default, the log files are saved after they reach the max size. The max size is 50,000 bytes. This cannot be changed.

How do I install Desktop Shark?
Answer:
Download the application from our website. Once this is done, run the executable. If you haven't already registered for user name and password then you will want to register and purchase a license to begin using the remote features. For further instructions download the user manual.

I activated a license for remote access but am having trouble receiving emails?
Answer:
Make sure the license has been activated in the application. You can do this by opening the admin console and clicking the remote access tab. Also make sure that you CHECKED "Allow Remote Access" and that the username password is correct.

Desktop Shark doesn't run on other User Accounts in Windows
Answer:
Due to desktop shark requiring special permissions it may not work under all user-accounts.

Does desktop shark contain spyware, malware, or viral data?
Answer:
NO! Desktop Shark is strongly against free software that contains trojans, viruses, and advertisments. Our software does NOT contain anything of the sort. It is used soley for the downloader on the host machine.

How do I remove it from my system?
Answer:
Browse to the installation directory and double-click uninstall.exe or manually run "C:DSuninstall.exe". It makes us sad when this happens, so please let us know why you want to break-up with Desktop Shark by using our support tab above.

How do I run Desktop Shark manually? It does not appear to be running...
Answer:
To run Desktop Shark, navigate to the HIDDEN Desktop Shark directory. This is by default "C:DS", unless you specified another location during your install. Once you find the folder, double-click "dskl.exe" or "Desktop Shark.exe".
Question:
The passphrase I am using still does not work. Why?
Answer:
First, make sure you are typing in the passphrase correctly. If you still cannot access your control panel, browser to the location you installed Desktop Shark and double click the Desktop Shark icon.

Will Desktop Shark automatically update when upgrades are available?
Answer:
Yes, assuming the permissions have been turned on to allow automatic updates. However, it is the responsibility of the user to make sure they are running the latest version of Desktop Shark.

Is it ok for me to install Desktop Shark on computers that I do not own?
Answer:
Users should NOT install Desktop Shark or any other software for that matter on computers that they do not own with intentions on obtaining information without the owners consent. For laws in your area, seek advice from your local law enforcement authorities.
Question:
My activation code does not work or nothing happens after typing in the code and clicking the submit button? I know I'm using the right code.
Answer:
This is usually due to anti-virus software installed on the PC which prohibits Desktop Sharks access to the internet. To fix this see our Exception List. If your particular antivirus software help files are missing please contact support@desktopshark.com and let us know what antivirus software you are running.
Question:
What if my anti-virus software blocks Desktop Shark or alerts users of its presence?
Answer:
It is always a possibility that certain anti-virus softwares might be able to detect our software or the presence of it outside of our control. In this situation the best step is to add our software to the Exception List and allow it to be ignored.
